“Some people wait a lifetime for a moment like this.” – Kelly Clarkson
It was a quiet evening on Ffryes Bay, just around dusk, when the bright, sunny day slowly turns to a balmy, tropical night. The ocean and sky were painted in pretty pastels and the lazy waves were rolling to shore, whispering sweet nothings my way. The sand was soft and soothing beneath my feet, now cool without the sun’s touch. It was the picture perfect scene of beauty and tranquility.
There were two young lovers down the beach, enjoying sunset together in this wonderful paradise. The words they exchanged could not be heard but the love and romance they shared could be felt in the air, thick like the day’s humidity. My eyes were drawn to them and my mind wandered contentedly. My heart was filled with feelings of happiness and bliss that were softly radiating up the beach.
And then, he got down on one knee. The atmosphere was instantly charged with electricity, and a sense of excitement and anticipation filled the air. This was it, this was the moment she waited for her whole life, and the moment that he had so carefully planned…the moment they engaged to share their life together. This was the moment of their dreams.
She said “YES!” and they embraced each other in celebration (the moment captured in this photo). I wanted to give them privacy but could no longer contain my happiness; I hooted and hollered my congratulations. I was able to experience this truly magical moment, with them, through them, right from my spot down the beach. It is the only engagement I’ve ever had the pleasure to witness in person.
I don’t know who they are. I don’t even know what they look like. All that I know is I’m grateful to have been a part of this special occasion, and I wish them the continued love and joy they shared that day.
